Efklides Papadopoulos was born in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1962 and studied Graphic Fine Arts - Printmaking, Pretoria Tecknikon (Tshwane University of Technology), South Africa.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

1989

In Johannesburg (South Africa) he trained and worked as a computer Graphics Designer for IDEA DATA a company specialising in visual support. 

The last twenty seven years has been actively involved in the film industry as an video editor, 3D Animator, Motion Graphics Artist for tv ads, video clips, corporate videos and film productions, in Cyprus and Greece.

1990 – 1994

Lumiere Services, (Nicosia Cyprus) worked as a 3D animator and Motion graphics artist.

1994 – 2000

OMNIA, (Nicosia Cyprus) active partner and design the set up of the post production facilities, worked as a video editor/compositor and motion graphics designer.

2000 – 2009

PRINTMAKING

After his returned to Cyprus in 1990 together with other printmakers, founded the Group of Printmakers and later with the contribution of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and the financial support of Hellenic Bank, they have founded the Model Printmaking Workshop of the Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts.

In 1987, a print work (etching) of Efklides’ was selected and exhibited for the first time in Europe in an Art Exhibition of Young Greek Artists in Athens, Greece.

 

In his portfolio the artist counts more than twenty group exhibitions. Works of the artist have been chosen for the 2000 Millennium collectors’ co-memorable wall calendar, of the Hellenic Bank. (Cyprus)

 

The artist was present at the millennium celebrations in Athens in a retrospective exhibition of Cypriot and Greek Engraving, entitled “Lights and Shadows”, Panorama of Hellenic Printmaking, hosted at The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre and the National Art Gallery in Athens.

 

Strasburg 2001, Efklides’ print artwork was hosted in a solo exhibition, within the frame of the Greek Cultural Month. 

 

In 2002 one of his etchings was selected as the farewell gift of the 2002 BAT European Regional Annual Conference, held in Athens.

 

2003 – 2007, the artist participated several workshops and seminars focusing on new technics, new environmental friendly materials and the influence of the technology in Printmaking, i.e lithography alternatives techniques, photopolymer engraving, silkscreen water based inks etc.

 

In October 2008 Efklides was assign by The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre to organise a printmaking studio and among the Municipality of Nicosia establish The Educational Centre for Children. Since then the artist teaches the art of printmaking to children and young adults.

 

In 2008 his work was presented within the frame of “The International Print Project” in Portland USA and at the gallery OPUS-39 in Nicosia. The project launched in 2007 by Dr Arafat Al-Naim and Barbara Mason in collaboration with International Art Institutes, Associations, Galleries and Artists from all over the world to celebrate global culture and widen intercultural dialogue while demonstrating the richness of printmaking medium.

 

In February of 2009 Efklides’ presented his first solo exhibition in Nicosia at the gallery OPUS-39. The artwork explored the concept of time and the sense given by humans.

 

In August of 2009 his work was selected by the Royal West of England Academy for the exhibition entitled “Open Print – Contemporary Printmaking” in Bristol-UK, within the frame of the International Print Conference, IMPACT 2009.

 

In 2010 within the frame of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Cyprus Independency, took part in the exhibition entitled “50 years of Cypriot Democracy engraved by the Cypriots”. The exhibition was presented in London, in Athens and in Nicosia (Cyprus).

 

Paris, December 2010. Efklides with the artists Helen Panayidou and Michael Phantaros presented the art work/installation “RE-PRINT” at the Espace Commines Art Centre. The exhibition entitled “Cyprus 2010, the art in present time” was the occasion of 50th year from the foundation of Cyprus Democracy.

 

Mexico 2012, at the National Autonomous University, participated the exhibition entitled “Una Ventana Hacia Chipre a traves de la Mirada de sus Artistas”.

 

In Athens in November of 2012, participated in the exhibition entitled «CY PRINT IT» with the members of the Cyprus Printmakers Association in the 2nd edition of the Athens International Print Festival.

 

Nicosia 2013, presented the art happening entitled «Print-Act», at the Nicosia Leventio Museum and later in August at the Cultural Center of the University of Cyprus. The title of the action describes Efklides’ cooperation with artists in the fields of theatre, dance and music for the co-creation of a visual event under the common theme «Nicosia», inspired by poetry written by Cypriot writers.

 

Nicosia 2015, participated the exhibition entitled “Engraving Meetings” in the framework of the annual art event “Printmaking Days 2015” organized by the Cyprus Printmakers Association.

 

Athens 2016, participated in the exhibition entitled «PRINT DAILY NEWS CY» with the members of the Cyprus Printmakers Association in the 3rd edition of the Athens International Print Festival.

 

At present the artist is working on his new work planning to present it in a solo exhibition schedule in December 2018. (Athens and Nicosia)
